Family Night Out
Some of our favourite ways to entertain the clan at Woodgrove.
Published 18 December

Getting out of the house and spending quality time with the family is a great way to start the new year as you mean to go on - with plenty of laughs and someone else doing the dishes! You don’t have to go far either; you’ll find an array of child-friendly restaurants, wholesome entertainment and decadent treats right on your doorstep at Woodgrove.

Make your own montage

With late opening on a Friday, there’s nothing to stop you acting out your very own Confessions of a Shopaholic-style movie montage. Take snaps of yourselves wearing glitzy costume jewellery at Lovisa, try on statement-making sunnies at Ozmosis or play around with #twinning outfits at Cotton On and Cotton On Kids.

While father and son get matching haircuts at Da Barber, mum and daughter might share a manicure experience a U Star Nails, and then it’s on to Donut King to record some footage of you enjoying flamboyant treats with a caption along the lines of ‘all you need is love and doughnuts’.

Take a seat and tuck in

Exploring world cuisine doesn’t have to mean a visit to Flight Centre (though planning an overseas holiday together is super-fun), when you have La Porchetta serving up can traditional wood-fired pizza, Red Lantern offering slow-cooked Malaysian curry and Nando’s grilling Portuguese-style chicken for dinner.

Food intolerances in the family? No problem. Decide for yourselves whether the vegan schnitzel burgers are better at Schnitz or Hog’s Breath Café.
Eating out need not involve ditching the new-year-new-you diet either, with hearty salads a plenty at the likes of Degani Bakery Café.

If free desserts, discounted sharing plates and limited-edition dishes are your sort of thing, keep an eye on our regularly updated Offers page. You might even catch a free live performance during dinner from one of the talented musicians on our busking calendar.

Enjoy some Hollywood magic

It’s hard to beat the transportative effect of catching the latest Hollywood blockbuster on a three-storey screen, in Dolby Digital surround sound, with none of the distractions that come with home viewing. And 2019 is shaping up to be a fantastic one for family movies; from the long-awaited Mary Poppins and Dumbo reboots to the first Captain Marvel outing and a Robin Hood reimagining.

With family discounts available on your favourite snack combos, including devilishly large soft drinks and skyscrapers of popcorn, taking the whole clan to the movies is all kinds of fun. You can also earn special concessions by signing up for a Readings Cinemas Reel Club loyalty card.
