Hurray! It’s time for the kids to head back to school and for parents to (hopefully) get a little me time back again. Keen to save time and make life easier this year? Get them organised for Term 1 with these five simple hacks.

Shoe shopping made simple

Not keen on dragging them around the shops with you? Try tracing an outline of kids’ feet onto some paper or cardboard, note down their shoe size and carry it in your bag so that you can buy their shoes without them. For a great range of school shoes for preppies through to teens head to Spendless Shoes and Lowes.

Avoid the sports day dramas

Here’s a tip: as soon as their sports gear is washed and folded, store it straight back in their sports bag and hang on a hook by the door. Having everything in one place and ready to go for the next time will save you from 30 minutes of frantic searching every Saturday morning. Best and Less, Sportsco and Rebel Sports both have a huge supply of affordable activewear for kids. For fun kids’ bags and backpacks, take a look at Strandbags, Cotton On, Colette by Colette Hayman and Harris Scarfe.

Bring their sneakers back to life

Forget what you’ve been told; removing scuff marks from a pearly white sole is actually possible. Grab a magic eraser from Kmart, rub it in some toothpaste, add a little elbow grease and ta-da! No more scuff marks. Got your magic eraser? Explore a massive range of back to school clothing, supplies and more at Kmart.

Adopt a storage strategy

Nothing slows down the morning run quite like the old “Mum! I can’t find my shoes!” routine. Our suggestion? Get two storage boxes: one for their shoes, one for their socks. Label each box and leave by the front door so that they can pop off their shoes each time they get home. It’s a super simple tip, but will change your life and shave off some time each morning. Get organised with storage and school supplies from Big W.

No excuses for homework

Blunt pencils, missing pens, no paper – kids will find any excuse to procrastinate and delay their nightly homework. If you keep all of their supplies in a dedicated storage box or tray, you’ll eliminate a good portion of those excuses for skipping the homework routine. Plus, if their stationery is cute, they’re more likely to want to use it. Browse storage solutions in fun colours and designs at The Reject Shop and update their stationery at Smiggle, Typo and Fantastic Variety.
